Summary
Animal Farm is a novel about a community fed up with mistreatment. On a farm ran by a man named Farmer Jones the animals are brutally worked and starved. Lead by a elder, prize winning pig Old Major, the animals on the farms decide to rebel. They attack the farm house and all of the humans within it and chase them off chase farm. This was succeeded 4 years after the death of their leader Old Major. This was later called Animalism. Animalism had 10 commandments that all animals had to follow. The saying for Animalism was "Four legs good, two legs bad". This is to remind the animals that only animals were to trust.
After the victorious takeover the animals lived free lives under the leadership of the pigs because they were the wisest animal. The leaders were Snowball and Napoleon. Napoleon and Snowball didn't have many agreements. Soon Napoleon chased Snowball of the farm using a group of dogs he raised and trained to be his viscous body guards. He now took control of the farm.
Though under Snowballs leadership conditions were harsh, under Napoleon was worse. The animals were pushed through hard labor in terrible weather. Another thing is that the pigs never worked. It was only the horses, cows, donkeys, etc. Things got worse as the rules began to be bent. Most of the animal couldn't read and/or write. Also, they were easily manipulated by the pigs because they were wiser. Taking this as an advantage of theirs the pigs began changing the commandments for their own benefit. For example, in chapter 8 some animals were slaughtered by Napoleon and his dogs for betrayal to farm. One of the commandments says "No animal shall kill any other animal". At least this is what it said up until now. In chapter 9 a horse named Muriel went to read the commandments to find that "WITHOUT CAUSE" was added to the end of this commandment. This continued to manipulate the animals to let the pigs do things that pleasure them. No animal spoke up about it they just accepted it as real.
This manipulation and lying continued on to harsher things and situations. The pigs were associating with humans on other farms. The pigs were becoming like humans. They even began walking on two legs like humans. The saying 'Four legs good, two legs bad" was changed to "Four legs good, two legs better". They also began carrying whips and hitting the animals to make them work. (Chapter 10 p.50-51). The animals revolution had turned into the pigs revolution. The pigs became like humans. The pigs and the leaders of other farms sat at the table eating and laughing. The other animals peered in. They could barely tell the difference. After years of suffering and fighting for change, it all came back to the same
