Characterization: Benjamin
Benjamin wasn't a big character in the novel "Animal Farm". He was quiet, stubborn, old, and intelligent. He wasn't rebellious but you could tell he didn't really show as much concern for the growth of animal farm or the rebellion. The novel stated "Old Benjamin, the donkey, seemed quite unchanged since the Rebellion. He did his work the same slow obstinate way as he had done it in Jones time, never shirking and never volunteering for extra work either"(Animal Farm, pg.12). One trait of Benjamin was proven at the end of the story, he was a good friend. When Boxer was injured and couldn't work he stayed with him and kept the flies away (pg.46). He barely spoke throughout the story but when he saw Boxer was being taken to the glue factory he spoke up and asked the animals to help. He also called to Boxer telling him of his horrid fate (pg. 47). This little character spoke big words and made a pig impact when he finally spoke.
