Story Behind the Story of Animal Farm
"Animal Farm" revolved around the story of Vladimir Lenin, Josef Stalin and Leon Trotsky. Vladimir Lenin ruled the Bolsheviks in 1917. Lenin had two faithful proteges, Leon Trotsky and Josef Stalin. Vladimir died and he wanted Trotsky to rule instead of Stalin. He believed that Stalin was evil. However, despite Lenin's desire for Trotsky to take leadership Stalin seizes power. He ends up controlling the party and he exiles Trotsky. He later sent out men to find him and kill him. He was really power hungry.
Under the rule of Stalin the people were living in cruel and harsh conditions. Because he was so power hungry and afraid of someone gaining or having more power then him he performed "The Great Purge". He began killing 1,000's of higher ranking figures in the government in fear they would eventually take over. Along with this act he enters a pact with the Nazi's, a non-aggressive pact, during World War 2. This pact was broken by the Germans. After this nothing changed for the people. They continued to live in poverty and harsh conditions.
Similar to the story a Stalin and Trotsky evil corrupted and made things bad. Old Major represents Vladimir. Although he didn't say who he favored to be a leader he wished the best for Animal Farm. Snowball was the favored by the people. He was a good leader. He was intelligent, innovative, caring and he was a good militia leader. On the other hand Napoleon was cunning, brutal and self serving. Snowball represents Trotsky. Stalin is of course represented by Napoleon. In the novel "Animal Farm" Napoleon seizes power and exiles Snowball. The difference is he didn't kill him as Stalin did Trotsky. Under Napoleon's rule the animals of the farm worked in harsh conditions. Napoleon also does something similar to "The Great Purges". He kills all those who confess to be against Animal Farm and trying to kill him. He also made a pact with the humans who betrayed him by giving him the fake money. Overall the conditions for the animals never changed. They were still livIng on small rations of food and had to work in cruel weather.
